Skatepark Ideas Page – Post | 17/09/2011
Have ideas of what you’d like to see changed about the skatepark? Have some design ideas you’d like to share? Have some thoughts on how things are moving along? This is the place to post them. Let us know what you think and what you’re concerned about and we will express those concerns to the committee. Remember, now is the time to speak up. Don’t be shy and don’t think your idea is too small or not important. We are here to be a voice for you.
There are a few rules for this though. First and foremost remember to be POSSITIVE. This is an effort to make the skatepark a bigger better place: “a World Class Skatepark for a World Class City”. Negativity never brings progress and inappropriate comments will not be posted. That doesn’t mean that you can’t make legitimate complaints. You just need to word your complaints in a respectful manner. For example instead of “those porta potti’s blow and they smell like…” it would be better to simply state “I hope new bathrooms are part of the plan. We need to get rid of those porta-potti’s”.
The next thing is not really a rule but a guideline. The new skatepark is moving ahead with a ‘Jeffersonian’ theme. This simply means that some of the features that we are considering proposing have nuances of Thomas Jefferson’s architecture prevalent in their design and name. We have, for instance, features called The Rotunda, The Lawn, The Serpentine Pad, The Corner and The Goldfish Pond (we will try to get drawings of these features posted soon). Your ideas don’t have to be ‘Jeffersonian’ but it could help. Have fun with the idea and see what you can come up with.
Also as you may have noticed we are rolling under the banner of ‘The Green Skate Project’. Please see question 6 on our FAQ page for details.
If you have drawings or sketches you’d like to share, please email them to dbrown@freestyleonline.com or bring them by Freestyle (if you email be sure to include “Skatepark Idea” in the subject field). We are rounding up ideas about what we can add to the park both as far as features as well as peripherally (i.e. landscaping, outer walkways, fencing, etc.).
Speak up; get involved; let’s here it! Viva la Skatepark!

Anybody down for a good miniramp?
I think a mini ramp modeled after the original ramp at mcintire would be the raddest thing ever. Another thing that i think would be cool would be to have handrails set up for lines. You could have a nice mellow 5 stair rail then alittle bit bigger 8 stair rail. That way you could do some rail lines or stair lines or combine the two. I think that would be rad.
I want to see a good solid flat box about the height of freestyle’s box, and a good solid circle flatbar. Also a 7 or 8 stair with a real circle handrail and hubbas waist height. I would also like to see a mini ramp not made out of something that will chip and get holes in it. A fun bowl or something would be cool too.
I think we don’t need an attendant and it should be open from dawn to dusk. It should also be a concrete skatepark.
I think Some stairs would be nice, maybe a 6-7 stair that would be sick, and a grass gap on the side! A Euro gap (step up) would be cool. I would also like to see ramp to flat to 2-3 stair and air over the whole thing. And a new concrete bowl, with bumps and roller things. And it would also be nice to have the park more like a line, it would be better for filming.
A concrete park with a smaller set and then a bigger set and have some nice flowy bowls and maybe a spot in the park with just ledges and flatbars to do some lines in… that would be fun.
I think it is real important to have stuff for people of all skill levels: small rails, medium rails, big rails; small ledges, medium ledges, big ledges; small hubbas, medium hubbas, big hubbas; small transitions, medium transitions, big transitions; etc. I think it is also important for there to be a variety of things to skate and for it to be made so that you can have lines (i.e., do multiple tricks in succession). Also, I would like it if the metal used on the edges was square (what’s on the concrete ledges now is kinda rounded and it is hard to lock on it sometimes) and non-galvanized. (The galvanized metal doesn’t slide as well.) I also agree with Jesse’s comment that there should be another mini ramp like the one at the park now, but it would be nice if it were at least 8 feet wider. Finally, it would be nice if the park were aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. One could accomplish this if grass gaps were used in the park as well as trees with planters surrounding them that had slidable edges.
Hey everybody, send me a sketch of some stuff and I’ll try to put it up.
I here ya on the ‘lines’. That’s definitely in the mix. I’m also missin the euro that Vans had.
By the way I think the park should be indoors to, and put the old ramps in an outdoor location. The indoor park would probably atract more people too.
oh and a bank to to ledge… those are fun
I want to see running water and the location not near a creek that always smells bad.
I would like to see an actual member of the skateboard community..an adult skateboarder..be involved with the day to day running of the park..the opening/closing of the park..the maintenance of the park.An actual skater boosts morale and through his experience he/she can offer advice and guidance to skaters and parents alike on a variety of subjects from board selection, trick tips,safety..and safety equipment selection..as well as performing deck maintenance when needed. This is sorely lacking now.Having a Skater-Friendly Park is the very essence of what we as a community are trying to provide.Having an actual Skater as the Supervisor provides this. This has been a great benefit to thriving Skateparks that I have visited throughout the U.S. and abroad. Mark 48 and still going strong.
Instead of having separate ramps and being limited to one short run on ramps you just go up and down on, have it nice and flowing (so) you can get aroud the whole park in one run(.) Rails mixed in with different parks make the whole thing sort (of) like a bowl with a ton of street (f)eatures with stairs built into it. (Also) have (a) really nice bowl (with a) 6 foot section (and) with (a) vert wall that drops into (a) 10 foot section [vert: the real deal]. But out of anything we need a lot of street because thats what everyone rides but there are still the people that love the bowl and thats what they skate [me included] so please dont leave that out.
The street course has many ideas as seen above. Think a mini at least 16ft wide, either skatelite or metal like 3ft tall to 5ft spine. Metal can be made so it is not slick. Possibly with a spine going into a bowl, sort of like what McIntire has now. The McIntire bowl when in better shape is a good shape with some fast lines. Maybe a slight waterfall and vert on deeper side. Kidney shape with a hip that really pops out a bit more than current bowl.
Please if using concrete stick to skate park builders like Grindline, Artisan, or Team Payne folks like that. Guys that skate and will recognize designs flaws when building. Plus they will build it correctly!!!
I would like to see a park that’s not next to a busy road.
a cement park that flows good
